First Time in Bali: Complete 7 Day Budget Guide
Seven Days in Bali: One Base, Six Nights
Solo trip from India | April–May 2027
The week and daily spend (excluding the hostel)
Where the money goes
- Return flights ₹29,000
- Hostel ₹7,000
- Activities ₹13,000
- Food and nightlife ₹12,500
- Transport ₹4,500
- Visa, SIM, spare ₹6,500
These are planning estimates, not confirmed booking prices. Flights are the biggest variable in the total budget.
A first solo trip to Bali from India,7D/6N, costs about ₹72,500 including flights. Most of that goes on three things: ₹29,000 for return flights, ₹7,000 for six hostel nights and ₹13,000 for activities. The rest covers food, nightlife, transport, your visa and a SIM, and the full breakdown is in the budget section below.
You’ll stay in Canggu the whole time. Days 2 and 3 go to surfing, beach clubs and nightlife, day 4 to ATV biking and white-water rafting near Ubud, day 5 to Uluwatu’s beaches and cliffs, and day 6 to snorkelling at Nusa Penida.
Before you fly, plan to carry about IDR 1.5–2 million (₹8,000–₹10,500) in cash, pick up a Telkomsel tourist SIM for around ₹780, and complete the e-VOA, All Indonesia declaration and Bali tourist levy online. All prices are planning targets for April–May 2027, so recheck them when you book.

Two big party nights, one adventure day, one island day and a lot of beach time. Daily budgets exclude the hostel, which is covered separately.
Day 1: Arrival and a hostel social night
An easy start.
- Land at Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS), clear immigration and collect your bag.
- Take a Grab/Gojek or a pre-arranged transfer to the hostel and meet your dorm-mates.
- Walk down to Batu Bolong Beach, then have dinner at an Indonesian or Indian restaurant.
- Join the hostel welcome activity, group dinner or pub crawl, but keep it relaxed after the flight.
Budget: ₹1,500–₹2,000.
Day 2: Surf lesson, FINNS beach party and nightclub
The first major party night.
- Morning: hostel breakfast, then a beginner surf lesson at Batu Bolong Beach.
- Afternoon: FINNS Beach Club in Berawa for the pool, DJs and sunset. Stay through sunset rather than rushing on.
- Night: if you have the energy, Atlas Beach Club and its Super Club for a proper nightclub. Vault is the alternative for a more music-focused night on another evening.
Skip the expensive private daybed. General entry or cheaper seating leaves more money for the experience. FINNS and Atlas are both in Berawa, so the party area is compact.
Budget: ₹3,000–₹3,500.
Day 3: Beach recovery, cafés and Canggu nightlife
A social day.
- Morning: sleep in, have a relaxed hostel breakfast and wander Canggu’s cafés and shops.
- Afternoon: Echo Beach, then La Brisa for its tropical beachfront setting, sunset and drinks.
- Night: a hostel pub crawl, or Vault Nightclub if its DJ line-up suits you. Old Man’s or Sand Bar are the casual beach-bar options.
Canggu nightlife ranges from beach bars to underground clubs, so pick one main destination instead of paying several entry fees.
Budget: ₹2,000–₹2,500.
Day 4: Ubud ATV and white-water rafting
The adventure day.
- Leave Canggu early with a pre-arranged transfer or tour pickup.
- Ride an ATV through jungle tracks, mud, tunnels and countryside.
- Raft the rapids of the Ayung River through jungle scenery.
- Have lunch, change, return to Canggu and get an early night. Don’t force another big party.
A combined ATV and rafting package covers two adventure priorities in one day. One published operator example lists a single-rider combo from IDR 1.1 million, but 2027 prices and inclusions need checking.
Budget: ₹5,500–₹7,000 including transport, depending on the operator.
Day 5: Uluwatu beaches, cliffs and a sunset party
- Morning: pre-arranged driver to Melasti Beach for white sand, turquoise water and limestone cliffs.
- Afternoon: Padang Padang or Suluban Beach. Explore the coastal paths and watch surfers at Suluban if conditions allow.
- Sunset: Single Fin above the Uluwatu surf break. Wednesday and Sunday are commonly its bigger DJ days, but check the 2027 programme before choosing your day.
- Optional: Savaya for a late night, only if there is a good event and the budget allows. Premium Uluwatu club nights get expensive.
Arrange your return to Canggu in advance. Ride-hailing pickups from some beaches, especially around Melasti, can be difficult.
Budget: ₹2,500–₹3,500, excluding an expensive club event.
Day 6: Nusa Penida snorkelling
The water adventure.
- Leave early for Sanur Harbour and take a fast boat to Nusa Penida.
- Join an organised group snorkelling trip. Depending on sea conditions and the operator’s route, spots include Manta Point, Crystal Bay and Gamat Bay.
- If time allows, add one viewpoint such as Kelingking Beach. Don’t try to fit in every viewpoint.
- Return to Sanur and Canggu, have a relaxed dinner and skip the late-night club.
Manta sightings are not guaranteed. Sea conditions, visibility and boat schedules change, so choose an operator that puts safety ahead of wildlife promises. Snorkelling is the underwater activity here; scuba diving is not part of this plan.
Budget: ₹4,500–₹6,000, depending on inclusions and transfers.
Day 7: Checkout and flight home
- Have breakfast and check out.
- Confirm your terminal and departure time.
- Take a Grab/Gojek or pre-arranged transfer to Denpasar Airport, leaving time for traffic, check-in and immigration.
Budget: ₹500–₹1,000, excluding any airport meal.
What was left out
The Mount Batur sunrise trek is not in the core plan. Its very early start, stacked on top of ATV, rafting, snorkelling and several late nights, would make the week exhausting. If a proper mountain trek matters more to you than one beach or nightlife session, swap it in for the Uluwatu day.
Cost breakdown
Including both the ATV/rafting day and the Nusa Penida trip, the whole week comes to ₹72,500, inside the ₹65,000–₹75,000 target.
Estimated Travel Expenses for One Person
| Expense | Target (₹) |
|---|---|
| India–Bali return flights | ₹29,000 |
| The Farm Hostel, 6 nights | ₹7,000 |
| Food and regular drinks | ₹5,500 |
| Beach clubs and nightlife | ₹7,000 |
| Transport and transfers | ₹4,500 |
| Surfing, ATV, rafting and snorkelling | ₹13,000 |
| e-VOA and Bali tourist levy | ₹3,500 |
| SIM and travel insurance | ₹1,500 |
| Emergency / miscellaneous | ₹1,500 |
Treat this as an ambitious target, not a guaranteed package price. The adventure line depends on finding shared tours and reasonable transfer prices. The ₹29,000 flight is the number that matters most: if fares climb to ₹40,000, the total passes ₹80,000 unless you cut elsewhere.
Practical Arrangements at a Glance
| Item | Plan |
|---|---|
| Visa | Indonesian B1 e-VOA, subject to 2027 rules |
| Arrival airport | Denpasar (DPS) |
| Room | Mixed dormitory at The Farm Hostel |
| Mobile data | Telkomsel tourist SIM/eSIM, subject to availability |
| Local rides | Grab and Gojek |
| Longer trips | Pre-booked driver or shared tour transfers |
| Food | Indonesian, with Indian and vegetarian options around Canggu |
| Insurance | Include adventure activity cover |
| Scooter | Not needed; only ride if legally licensed, insured and properly equipped |
Before booking tours, confirm what is included. For Nusa Penida: the boat transfer, snorkelling gear, local transfers, lunch and insurance. For ATV and rafting: safety equipment, a guide, accident cover and any activity restrictions.
If you want to rent a scooter anyway. The plan above doesn’t need one, and it is not in the ₹72,500 budget. Allow roughly ₹1,200–₹2,000 extra for three days of rental plus fuel, using planning allowances rather than 2027 quotes. Only ride if you hold a valid motorcycle licence and an International Driving Permit with the correct motorcycle category, because a car licence or an Indian licence alone is not valid for riding in Indonesia. Then:
- Wear a proper helmet.
- Photograph the scooter from every side before taking it.
- Check the brakes, tyres, lights and mirrors.
- Ask whether the insurance covers scooter accidents and whether it requires a motorcycle licence.
- Never ride after drinking, in heavy rain or on unfamiliar mountain roads, and don’t use your phone while riding.
Without the licence and IDP, stick with Grab/Gojek.
Where to stay: one hostel, six nights
Stay in one place. The Farm Hostel in Batu Bolong, Canggu (29 Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong) is the first choice for this plan.
- Mixed dormitory for all six nights.
- Pool, communal spaces, social events and organised nights out.
- Breakfast is offered, but confirm it is included in the rate you book.
- Walkable to the beach and easy to head out with other backpackers.
Booking target: about ₹6,000–₹8,000 for six nights. Look for a mixed dorm with air-conditioning, lockers, bed curtains and free cancellation.
Location is the one thing not to compromise on. Staying in Batu Bolong lets you build your social life around the hostel and go out with other travellers instead of organising every night alone.
Food: vegetarian and Indian options in Canggu
Vegetarian and Indian food is easy to find in Bali, and Canggu has more of it than most areas. You won’t be stuck with salads, fruit and bread for a week. A good mix is familiar Indian meals when you want comfort, and local Indonesian vegetarian dishes the rest of the time. Check current menus and opening hours before you go, as places change.
Indian Restaurants Near Your Hostel
| Restaurant | Area | What to Expect |
|---|---|---|
| Aunty Ji’s | Batu Bolong | Indian comfort food and street-food-style dishes, close to the hostel. |
| Chai’Ba Authentic Indian Cuisine & Bar | Berawa | North and South Indian dishes with vegetarian and plant-based options, near FINNS. |
| Mokshu’s Jain Indian Cuisine | Tibubeneng / Canggu | Vegetarian Indian food with a Jain-friendly focus, good for strict vegetarians. |
| Nana Sans Tandoori Kitchen | Raya Canggu | Tandoori dishes, paneer, curries and naan, with listed hours running late into the night. |
Vegetarian and Vegan Cafés
| Place | Known For |
|---|---|
| The Shady Shack | Vegetarian burgers, bowls, salads and plant-based options. |
| I Am Vegan Babe | Fully vegan breakfasts, smoothie bowls and desserts. |
| KYND Community Canggu | Colourful smoothie bowls, brunch and vegan food. |
| OMA JAMU Vegan | Budget-friendlier Indonesian-style vegan meals and nasi campur. |
| Warung Pande Vegan | Local-style Indonesian vegetarian food. |
Indonesian vegetarian dishes to try
- Gado-gado: vegetables and tofu in peanut sauce.
- Nasi goreng: Indonesian fried rice. Ask for no meat, egg or seafood if needed.
- Tempeh and tofu: the most common plant-based proteins.
- Nasi campur: rice with assorted sides. Pick the vegetarian ones and confirm the ingredients.
Indonesian food isn’t automatically vegetarian just because it looks like vegetables. Shrimp paste (terasi), fish sauce, meat stock and prawn crackers often turn up in dishes that otherwise seem fine, so always ask.
Indonesian Phrases for Vegetarians
| English | Indonesian |
|---|---|
| I am vegetarian | Saya vegetarian |
| No meat | Tanpa daging |
| No chicken | Tanpa ayam |
| No fish | Tanpa ikan |
| No egg | Tanpa telur |
| No shrimp paste | Tanpa terasi |
| Is this vegetarian? | Apakah ini vegetarian? |
For strict vegetarian food, show the staff this sentence:
Saya vegetarian. Saya tidak makan daging, ayam, ikan, seafood, atau terasi. Tolong jangan gunakan kaldu daging atau ikan.
English meaning: I am vegetarian. I don’t eat meat, chicken, fish, seafood or shrimp paste. Please don’t use meat or fish stock.
Money in Bali: cash, exchange and cards
Arrive with IDR 1.5–2 million in cash, roughly ₹8,000–₹10,500 at about IDR 190 per ₹1. That rate is only illustrative, real rates and fees will differ. Keep the rest of your holiday money on an international debit/credit card or forex card with ATM access. You do not need to carry the whole ₹70,000-plus budget as cash.
- Cash is for: local warungs, small cafés, parking, roadside shops and tips.
- Cards are for: larger restaurants, hotels, beach clubs, supermarkets and online bookings.
Where to exchange your rupees
Option A: in India before departure (preferred). Use an RBI-authorised bank or forex dealer, and ask early whether they can supply rupiah for your dates, since not every branch stocks it. Compare how many rupiah you get for ₹10,000, any extra fees, and whether you receive an official receipt. Ask for a mix of notes, including IDR 100,000, 50,000 and smaller.
Option B: at Bali airport. The international terminal has money changers and bank ATMs. Change only IDR 300,000–500,000 for your first ride, water and snacks, after comparing the displayed rate and fees.
Option C: in Canggu. Use a properly licensed money changer, not a random street vendor. Bank Indonesia publishes a public directory of licensed operators. At the counter:
- Check the displayed rate.
- Ask how many rupiah you will receive after fees.
- Count every note yourself.
- Take the receipt.
- Avoid booths advertising unusually good rates without a licence.
Should you carry USD instead? You can compare buying rupiah directly in India with buying dollars and converting in Bali, but two conversions can mean two margins. Compare the final rupiah amount, not the assumption. Don’t count on carrying rupees and getting a good rate in Bali.
Managing Money During the Trip
| Method | Best For |
|---|---|
| IDR cash | Local food, small shops, parking. |
| International debit/credit card | Beach clubs, hotels, restaurants and online bookings. |
| Forex card | Spending and ATM withdrawals, if its rupiah fees and exchange rate are competitive. |
- Enable international transactions on your bank card and check foreign transaction charges before you leave.
- When an ATM or card machine offers a choice, pick IDR rather than INR to avoid its own conversion rate.
- Use ATMs attached to bank branches, cover your PIN and avoid public Wi-Fi for banking. The Indian Consulate in Bali warns tourists about ATM skimming and theft.
- Split your cash: main reserve in the hostel locker, about IDR 300,000–500,000 in your daily wallet, and a separate card and emergency funds as backup. Never carry everything to a club.
Which Payments to Make in Cash
| Expense | Pay With |
|---|---|
| Local warungs, parking, fuel, markets | Cash |
| Small cafés | Cash or card |
| Beach clubs | Card |
| Nightclubs | Card or cash |
| Hostel | Card or prepaid |
| Grab / Gojek | In-app payment or cash, depending on the options shown |
Don’t count on UPI working in Bali. Indonesia’s QRIS cross-border payment system lists partner countries such as Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, and India is not on the published list.
Rupee to rupiah, at a glance
On 4 November 2026, ₹1 was roughly IDR 191.6. Real changer and bank rates will be lower, and 2027 rates will differ, so use this only as a mental shortcut.
Indian Rupees to Indonesian Rupiah
| Indian Rupees (INR) | Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) |
|---|---|
| ₹100 | 19,160 |
| ₹500 | 95,800 |
| ₹1,000 | 191,600 |
| ₹2,000 | 383,200 |
| ₹5,000 | 958,000 |
| ₹10,000 | 1,916,000 |
Note: These are approximate conversion figures based on ₹1 = IDR 191.60. Actual exchange rates and fees will vary.
Five money mistakes to avoid
- Carrying all your holiday money in one wallet.
- Withdrawing cash from isolated ATMs or accepting help from strangers at one.
- Letting a restaurant or shop take your card out of sight.
- Accepting INR conversion at an ATM or card terminal. Choose IDR and let your bank convert it, after checking its fees.
- Using a money changer with an unusually good rate. Tourists have reported being short-changed.
Staying connected: SIM and eSIM
Buy a local Indonesian SIM or eSIM instead of relying on roaming from India. Telkomsel is the first choice for a solo first-timer because coverage matters when you are using Grab/Gojek, Google Maps and WhatsApp alone. XL and IM3 Indosat are alternatives worth comparing, but check coverage at your hostel before buying.
The Telkomsel tourist prepaid card:
- 25 GB of data, 25 minutes of local calls, 30 days of validity.
- Published price: IDR 150,000, about ₹780. Verify the price and package again before your 2027 trip.
- Available through tourist SIM ordering and selected pickup points.
Physical SIM vs eSIM for Bali
| Feature | Physical SIM | eSIM |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Insert the SIM | Scan a QR code |
| At the airport | Active after purchase and registration | Can be installed before departure |
| Local number | Yes, with the tourist plan | Depends on the provider |
| Needs | A SIM slot | An eSIM-compatible phone |
Choose the physical Telkomsel SIM if your phone has a slot. If you prefer an eSIM, pick Telkomsel’s own option or a travel eSIM that explicitly runs on the Telkomsel network, because some use other Indonesian networks.
Getting your SIM at the airport:
- Clear immigration and collect your luggage.
- Find the official Telkomsel counter and ask for the tourist prepaid package.
- Show your passport and give your phone’s IMEI details. Telkomsel registers foreign customers by passport.
- Let staff activate it, then test mobile data before you leave the airport.
How much data you need. For seven days, plan on 10–15 GB: roughly 1–2 GB for maps, 0.5 GB each for Grab/Gojek and messaging, 3–5 GB for social media, 1–2 GB for browsing and 2–4 GB for video and extras. The 25 GB package leaves a comfortable buffer.
Before you leave India:
- Keep your Indian SIM active for banking OTPs.
- Turn off Indian data roaming unless you have a suitable pack.
- Make sure your phone is unlocked and supports Indonesian network bands.
Budget note: the SIM costs about ₹780–₹1,200 all in, and the ₹1,500 line in the budget also has to cover travel insurance, so that line is tight. The emergency line can absorb any overrun.
Apps to install before you fly
Install around a dozen apps. You will probably use six or seven regularly.

What to pack
This list is built around the actual plan: a social hostel, beach clubs, clubbing, surfing, ATV, rafting and snorkelling. You do not need an outfit per party night. Two decent evening shirts and clean shoes give you enough variety.
Clothing
| Item | Quantity |
|---|---|
| Lightweight T-shirts | 4–5 |
| Casual shorts | 2–3 |
| Linen or casual evening shirts | 2 |
| Lightweight trousers or chinos | 1 |
| Swimwear | 2 |
| Quick-dry sports outfit | 1 |
| Underwear | 7 pairs |
| Socks | 3–4 pairs |
| Sleepwear | 1 set |
| Light rain jacket | 1 |
| Modest outfit for temple visits | 1 |
Footwear
- Sneakers: walking, nightlife and, if suitable, ATV. Use closed-toe shoes for the ATV and follow the operator’s safety instructions.
- Flip-flops: beach, hostel and pool.
- Water shoes: optional, for rafting and wet areas.
Beach and adventure essentials
- Waterproof dry bag, around 10 litres.
- Waterproof phone pouch, tested before use.
- Microfibre quick-dry towel.
- Sunglasses and cap.
- Sunscreen SPF 50+, preferably water-resistant.
- Insect repellent.
- Reusable water bottle.
- Spare T-shirt and underwear for water-activity days.
- Small day backpack.
Don’t bring your own mask, fins or life jacket. The organised Nusa Penida tour should provide them, but confirm before you book.
Toiletries and medicines
| Item | Why |
|---|---|
| Toothbrush and toothpaste | Daily use |
| Deodorant | Tropical heat and nightlife |
| Shampoo and body wash | Personal hygiene |
| Sunscreen | Beach and outdoor activities |
| Insect repellent | Outdoor evenings |
| Moisturiser and lip balm | Sun and weather exposure |
| Antiseptic wipes | Minor cuts and scrapes |
| Bandages and blister plasters | Walking and adventure |
| Personal medicines | Your regular requirements |
| ORS sachets | Hot, active days |
Carry prescription medicines in their original packaging, with a prescription where appropriate, and check Indonesian rules before bringing anything that may be controlled there.
Electronics and accessories
- Universal adapter: Indonesia uses Type C and F sockets at 230V/50Hz.
- Power bank: cabin baggage only. As one example, IndiGo permits a maximum of two power banks up to 100 Wh in the cabin; recheck your own airline’s policy.
- Mini phone tripod: handy for solo photos.
- Packing cubes: keep clean clothes, swimwear and laundry separate.
- Also carry your phone, charging cable, earphones, SIM/eSIM details and an unlocked handset.
What to wear for each experience
| Experience | Wear |
|---|---|
| Beach and cafés | Shorts, breathable T-shirt, sandals, sunglasses |
| Beach clubs and nightlife | Smart-casual shirt, shorts or chinos, clean shoes |
| Waterfalls, rafting, snorkelling | Quick-dry clothes, grippy footwear, swimwear |
| Temples | Shoulders and knees covered; use a sarong where required |
Easy to forget
- A light hoodie for cold flights and cool evenings.
- A waterproof pouch for your passport and cash on boat days.
- A basic grooming kit, a small first-aid kit and a sarong or microfibre towel.
- A camera or action camera, if you want one.
Leave at home
- Heavy jackets and too many jeans.
- Expensive watches, chains and jewellery.
- Large toiletry bottles.
- Large amounts of cash in a single wallet.
- Snorkelling gear you can rent.
- Multiple pairs of bulky shoes.
- Scooter-specific gear, since this plan uses Grab/Gojek and organised transfers.
Also skip drone gear unless you have checked Indonesian drone rules, and don’t bring a helmet from India. If you ever rent a scooter locally, a properly fitting, certified helmet is essential.
Luggage setup
- Main bag: a 35–40L backpack for clothes, footwear, toiletries and beach gear. Check the airline’s size rules; you may need to check it in.
- Day bag: a small 10–15L backpack for your passport, phone, wallet, power bank, medicines and documents. Keep valuables with you.
For a week, don’t pack your whole wardrobe. You can wash a few items at the hostel or use a local laundry.
Before you fly: documents and final advice
For a first international trip, build a document folder before you leave. The Indian Consulate in Bali recommends checking passport validity, arranging your e-VOA, completing the All Indonesia arrival declaration and paying the IDR 150,000 Bali tourist levy online in advance.
- Passport valid for more than six months beyond your planned departure from Indonesia
- Approved Indonesian e-VOA (B1), if using this visa
- Confirmed return flight ticket
- Six-night hostel reservation and address
- Travel insurance policy and emergency contacts
- All Indonesia arrival declaration confirmation
- Bali tourist levy payment confirmation
- International debit/credit card and forex card details
- Digital and printed copies of everything above
Official sites to bookmark: the Indonesia e-VOA portal, the Bali tourist levy site and the Indonesian customs declaration. The ₹3,500 in the budget for the visa and tourist levy is a planning estimate, so check the fees for your travel dates.
The trip in one paragraph
Six nights in one Canggu hostel, three or four nightlife options including two major party nights, two beach-club experiences, surfing, ATV, rafting and snorkelling, Uluwatu’s cliffs at sunset, and plenty of chances to meet other solo travellers.
Next steps
Your dates are flexible, so choose them around affordable India–Denpasar flights and the strongest Friday/Saturday nightlife schedule. Don’t book non-refundable hostel beds or party tickets until the dates are settled.
